Each year over £40,000 is sent as a block grant to enable the Church of Melanesia to help meet its priorities for mission. This money comes from individuals, churches and schools. The money is sent in this way to enable the church to set budgets and plan its work each year.
In addition to the block grant extra money for specific special projects is sent when available. These range from buying bicycles for clergy to travel across their large parishes, funding training courses, helping to build the Christian Care Centre (a refuge for abused women and their children), through to emergency funding during times of disaster like the recent tsunami. An extra £5,000 was raised during a special tsunami appeal which has helped pay for emergency food and shelter, trauma counselling, repairs to water supplies and transport costs
